2002 Walter Hansel Cahill Lane Vineyard Chardonnay
Walter Hansel himself started with 257 Chardonnay vines planted in the Russian River Valley in the 1970s. The first commercially-available vintage was released in 1996, and today the estate's Sonoma County vineyards cover 80 hectares (198 acres) of land planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with an additional vineyard planted to Sauvignon Blanc in Lake County.

Rating 94 RP - 2002 Walter Hansel Cahill Vineyard Chardonnay The impressive 2002 Chardonnay Cahill Lane is one of the finest Chardonnays I tasted during my trip. A big, sweet nose of nectarines, pineapple, lemon butter, and flowers jumps from the glass of this hugely textured effort. With a Batard-Montrachet-like buttery-ness and opulence, this wine recalls some of the finest offerings from Michel Niellon. RP
