Robert Parker
Rating | 97 RP - The 2004 Pinot Noir UV Vineyard, named after the well-known viticultural manager used by Mark Aubert (as well as Paul Hobbs), Ulises Valdez, emerges from a Sonoma Coast vineyard planted with the Calera Clone (believed to be, but never proven, suitcase cuttings from La Tache in Vosne-Romanee). There are 220 cases of this profound, dense purple-colored Pinot. Its sumptuously sweet bouquet of crushed flowers, blueberries, raspberries, plums, allspice, and forest floor is followed by a rich, full-bodied wine that is totally compelling given its richness, expansiveness on the palate, and fresh, well-delineated style. It may turn out to be one of the finest Pinot Noirs ever made in California, and should evolve for a decade or more. |

Wine Spectator
Wine Spectator | 94 WS - Wonderful richness and range of flavor, exhibiting spicy anise, black cherry, blackberry, cherry rhubarb and subtle earth and nutmeg scents. Glides on the finish, returning to the fruit and light oak themes. Drink now through 2010. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. |
