1986 Domaine Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne Burgundy - 99 pts!

Coche-Dury is a highly regarded producer based in Meursault, Burgundy. While they make some red wines from Pinot Noir, the house is famous for its highly collectible white wines made from Chardonnay. In fact, Coche-Dury's Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru wine is consistently ranked among the top 100 most expensive wines available on Wine-Searcher.

The Domaine was founded in the 1970s following the marriage of Jean-François Coche and Odile Dury, although the Coche family has been making wine in Meursault for several generations. Now, as well as holdings in Meursault, the family have vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie, Volnay and in the Corton Grand Cru vineyard. All up, the Coche-Dury holdings represent around nine hectares (22 acres) worth, about half of which are in Meursault itself.

Rating 1986 Domaine Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne Burgundy - 99 pts! When first released, this was one of the most flamboyant Corton-Charlemagnes of the vintage. It has now taken on more definition and structure, and may disprove my theory about the limited aging potential of Coche-Dury's wines. The wine still boasts a spectacular, stony, mineral-scented nose intermingled with aromas of over-ripe oranges and apples. Full-bodied, with admirable concentration, crisp acidity, and far more definition and focus than it initially exhibited, this large-scaled, yet perfectly balanced wine should continue to drink well for another 4-6 years.
