2011 Fourrier Griottes-Chambertin Burgundy - 95 pts!

Domaine Fourrier is a Burgundy wine estate based in Gevrey-Chambertin on the Côte d'Or. Its wines, mostly made from Pinot Noir, are highly sought-after and known for their silky finesse. Fourrier is perhaps best known for its wine from the famed Clos Saint-Jacques Premier Cru vineyard.

The domaine's vineyard holdings total 8.7 hectares (21.5 acres), located predominantly in Gevrey-Chambertin. These include parcels in seven different Gevrey-Chambertin premier cru sites, and a small plot in the Griottes-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard. Plots in Chambolle-Musigny, including two Premier Crus, Morey-Saint-Denis and the Les Petits Vougeots Premier Cru vineyard complete the portfolio. Only fruit from vines older than 30 years old are used to make Domaine Fourrier wines.

Rating 95 RP - The 2011 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is blessed with a sublime bouquet of intense red currant, fresh strawberry and rose petal aromas that display exquisite delineation and positively blossoms in the glass. The palate has a satin-like entry underpinned by filigree tannins that render this Griotte feminine, elegant and graceful with fabulous focus. This is simply exquisite.
Wine Spectator
Burghound 94 BH - Compared to the exuberance of the Clos St. Jacques this is much more restrained with timid aromas of rose petal, spice hints, warm earth and ripe red cherry and currant scents. There is excellent size, weight and punch to the large-scaled but not especially powerful medium-bodied flavors that brim with plenty of mouth coating dry extract, all wrapped in a particularly vibrant, precise and hugely long finish. As good as the Clos St. Jacques is, and it is indisputably excellent, there is just another dimension of depth present here.
