Our House’s most famous wine was created in 1876 to satisfy the demanding tastes of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asked Louis Roederer to reserve the House’s best cuvée for him every year. He was particularly fond of the House’s wine. To distinguish this cuvée, this exceptional champagne came in a flat-bottomed, transparent lead-crystal bottle. The new brand was named after this precious material, which is particularly transparent and luminous.

This is the King of all bottles of Cristal! With only 2000 Methuselahs produced this bottle has been one of the most sought after bottles of Cristal. These are becoming an endangered species!

Rating | RP97 - The Louis Roederer 1990 Cristal is awesome! A classic of power and finesse richness and delicacy it may be the greatest Cristal I have ever tasted! One caveat. Champagne more than any wine in the world is extremely vulnerable to heat. Pierre Rovani has already tasted a cooked bottle of this wine. RP |
