| Rating | 96 RP - Reminiscent of a Batard-Montrachet the light straw/greenish-colored 2003 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard boasts a huge opulent tropical fruit roasted hazelnut brioche and spice box-scented bouquet. Notions of orange marmalade and citrus oil also emerge in the flavors. Full-bodied and spectacularly concentrated it is the finest effort I have tasted from this cold climate vineyard. There are 1000 cases of the 2003 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard which possesses crisp acidity along with dramatic tropical fruits intermixed with minerals roasted hazelnuts and bread dough characteristics. A huge mouthfilling Chardonnay with laser-like focus it boasts amazing delineation for such a concentrated wine. I can only think of one or two other California producers who made anything close to the quality of this riveting Chardonnay in 2003. RP |
