1998 Domaine Armand Rousseau Pere et Fils Chambertin Burgundy - 93 pts

Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's oldest and most revered family-run domains. They hold many grand cru plots in Gevrey-Chambertin as well as part of the much sought-after premier cru vineyard Clos Saint-Jacques.

Founded at the start of the 20th Century by Gevrey native Armand Rousseau, the domaine initially owned small plots of vines throughout Gevrey-Chambertin. Over the next 100 years under both Armand Rousseau and his son Charles, who took over after the death of his father in 1959, the Domaine acquired various grand cru vineyards in Charmes-, Mazis- and Mazoyères-Chambertin, culminating in a plot in Le Chambertin itself in 1994.

Burghound

Burghound 93 BH - 1998 Domaine Armand Rousseau Pere et Fils Chambertin Burgundy - 93 pts An elegant, ripe and detailed fresh mostly red berry fruit nose is amply complemented by a broad range of nuances, including earth, anise, clove and a whiff of oak toast that dissolves into the rich, intense, muscled and powerful flavors that are not as firmly structured as one might think for a less than 10 year old Chambertin, all wrapped in a long and focused finish. This is still young and needs another 5 to 7 years to really arrive at its full state of maturity. BH
