2011 Bevan Cellars EE Tench Vineyard Proprietary Red - 97 pts

Bevan Cellars is a producer of Napa Valley and Sonoma wines based in Bennett Valley. It sources fruit from vineyards across the two major wine regions to produce small-lot wines made primarily of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bevan Cellars' full-bodied, richly flavored wines score high with the press, making them highly coveted by collectors, and usually only available on allocation.

The estate was founded by Russell Bevan and Victoria De Crescenzo in 2005. Before relocating to California, the two made regular trips to Napa Valley where they met and were mentored by esteemed winemakers Philip Togni and Bob Foley.

Bevan Cellars is most famous for its red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, both varietal and as part of a Bordeaux blend. These wines include the Sugar Loaf Mountain Red, the Tin Box, and the McGah Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which have been awarded 100-point scores by American wine critic Robert Parker

Robert Parker 97 RP - The 2011 Red Wine EE is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon from Tench vineyard in Oakville and 35% Cabernet Franc from a site very near their former Showket vineyard source, also in Oakville. Deep garnet colored, the nose opens with notes of smoked meats, black olives and bouquet garni over a core of prunes, blackcurrant jelly, fragrant earth and sandalwood. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers bright, slowly evolving black fruit layers with lots of earthy/minerally sparks and a velvety texture, finishing long with a minty kick.
Wine Spectator Dill, anise, mocha and cedary oak flavors highlight the initial aroma, with currant and blackberry fruit filling in the gap, lending this a juicier presence. The finish shows good length and persistence. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
