2012 Domaine Coche-Dury Mersault Burgundy

Coche-Dury is a highly regarded producer based in Meursault, Burgundy. While they make some red wines from Pinot Noir, the house is famous for its highly collectible white wines made from Chardonnay. In fact, Coche-Dury's Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru wine is consistently ranked among the top 100 most expensive wines available on Wine-Searcher.

The Domaine was founded in the 1970s following the marriage of Jean-François Coche and Odile Dury, although the Coche family has been making wine in Meursault for several generations. Now, as well as holdings in Meursault, the family have vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, Auxey-Duresses, Monthelie, Volnay and in the Corton Grand Cru vineyard. All up, the Coche-Dury holdings represent around nine hectares (22 acres) worth, about half of which are in Meursault itself.

Robert Parker

Robert Parker 2012 Domaine Coche-Dury Mersault Burgundy What sets Coche apart from the world's hordes of winemakers is more than his picking dates and harvesting techniques. It is dedication. With exceedingly few exceptions, producers throughout the world wish for their wines to be tasted between 10am and 11:30am, because somebody's told them the wines showed best during that time-frame. Coche demands that tastings be conducted after nightfall, I'll be in the vineyards starting at dawn, so we must meet at night. Therein lies the answer as to why Coche has yields low enough that they can ripen, healthy bunches, and the conscientiousness to harvest only when the grapes are fully mature. Jean-Francois Coche-Dury is one of the greatest winemakers on planet Earth. He continues to produce dazzling wines from unbelievably tiny yields, taking the maximum risk by bottling his wines with no filtration.
