| Robert Parker | 96 RP - The 1995 Clos Erasmus's levels of extract and richness are nearly off the chart. Only 280 cases were produced of this wine, which tips the scales at 14.6% alcohol. The wine had been open for 24 hours before I tasted it, yet it revealed no signs of oxidation or fruit deterioration! This is not a wine for the shy. It is a huge, massive, powerhouse example with a dense, port-like purple color, and aromas of macerated black fruits intermixed with minerals and French oak. Huge in the mouth, with extraordinary purity, this wine is almost too much of a good thing - but I loved it! Give it 4-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following two decades. |
