2012 Lokoya Mount Veeder Cabernet - 100 pts!
Established in 1995, Lokoya is a collection of four distinct Cabernet Sauvignons from four of Napa Valley’s most celebrated mountain appellations: Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. These limited-production wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, resulting in the purest expression of place. Several 100 point scores from Robert Parker have launched this wine to Cult Status.

Given the high elevation of the sites, the vineyards demand constant attention. The deep understanding of the vineyard trajectory in each vintage comes from Winemaker Christopher Carpenter’s years of expertise. Intervention is kept to a minimum both in the vineyard and in the cellar, leaving the fruit to express itself as naturally and eloquently as possible.

Rating 100 RP - The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is as compelling a Cabernet Sauvignon as one could ever hope to taste. This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a high-elevation site boasts an inky/purple color, and smells of ink, blueberry liqueur, blackberries, black raspberries, mulberries, licorice, charcoal and camphor. With magnificent fruit richness, a layered, full-bodied mouthfeel, and incredible length, this seamlessly constructed 2012 should provide immense pleasure for 25+ years. Kudos to winemaker Chris Carpenter as he is clearly at the top of his game. Jess Jackson, who has spawned some of California’s most talented winemakers, has Chris Carpenter behind the success of these wines. These current releases are the strongest efforts from Lokoya since their 1997s, 2001s, and 2002s. Production ranges from a low 200 cases for the Diamond Mountain, to over 1,000 cases for the highest rated cuvee, the Mount Veeder. All these wines have indigenous yeast fermentations, are aged approximately 21 months in new French oak, and are bottled with minimal clarification. They are made from what is essentially the best fruit from the remarkable array of vineyards owned by Jess Jackson. RP
