Bruno Giacosa is a famous wine producer based in Piedmont, Italy. It is particularly known for its intensely perfumed, textured wines from the Barolo and Barbaresco appellations, made from the Nebbiolo grape variety.
Giacosa himself famously began in the wine trade buying grapes for his father's wines at the age of 15. By 1960, he was ready to begin his own business and soon became one of Barbaresco's principal producers, along with Gaja and the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative. Giacosa's standards remain high: the 2006 and 2010 wines were sold off in bulk as they were not seen as being up to standard, even though most producers did not regard these as poor years. Accordingly, Bruno Giacosa wines are among the most expensive of their kind.

Robert Parker | 96 RP - The 2000 Barbaresco Rabaja is marvelous. It is also the most backward of Giacosa’s 2000s. Intense notes of minerals, menthol, plums and spicecake take shape in the glass as this regal, aristocratic Barbaresco reveals its pedigree and sheer class. Here the warmth of the vintage offsets the natural austerity and power of Rabaja, resulting in a complete, beautifully balanced Barbaresco of the highest level. The Red Labels get most of the attention among Giacosa’s 2000s, but the Rabaja isn’t too far off the pace. This will be a spectacular wine to follow over the next 10-15 years. |

96+ AG - My guess is that one day Giacosa's Barbaresco Rabajà will be viewed as the most successful of his 2000 Barbareschi. I loved the wine's structure and power. Endless layers of mineral and balsamic-infused fruit caressed the palate through to the finish. Wow! |
