2007 - Bruno Giacosa Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga d’Alba Double Magnum - 99 pts!

Bruno Giacosa is a famous wine producer based in Piedmont, Italy. It is particularly known for its intensely perfumed, textured wines from the Barolo and Barbaresco appellations, made from the Nebbiolo grape variety.

Giacosa himself famously began in the wine trade buying grapes for his father's wines at the age of 15. By 1960, he was ready to begin his own business and soon became one of Barbaresco's principal producers, along with Gaja and the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative. Giacosa's standards remain high: the 2006 and 2010 wines were sold off in bulk as they were not seen as being up to standard, even though most producers did not regard these as poor years. Accordingly, Bruno Giacosa wines are among the most expensive of their kind.

Rating 98 RP - The 2007 Barolo Riserva Le Rocche del Falletto bursts onto the palate with masses of dark fruit. The Riserva is a decidedly dark, brooding wine in this vintage. Scorched earth, smoke, menthol, licorice and new leather flow with marvelous intensity all the way through to the powerful finish. Over time the classic Giacosa bouquet of dried rose petal emerges, rounding out this fabulous effort in grand style. The imposing tannins will require a measure of patience, but the 2007 Riserva is shaping up to be another magnificent, towering Barolo from Bruno Giacosa.
