1985 Domaine Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru Burgundy - 97 pts BH!
Henri Jayer was a producer of red Burgundy known for making some of the most critically acclaimed and expensive Pinot Noir in the world. Jayer retired in from winemaking in 2001 and passed away in 2006, and the domaine was left to his nephew, Emmanuel Rouget, and all vintages since 2001 have been released under his name. Limited production and the finite number in existence have made Henri Jayer's wines some of the most collectible and highly priced in the world.

Burghound

Burghound 97 BH - 1985 Domaine Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru Burgundy - 97 pts BH! A heady and wonderfully perfumed nose of still largely primary fruit notes leads to quite dense and still completely fresh flavors of simply unbelievable depth and length. All the more remarkable is how fresh and young this remains with only hints of secondary notes to be found and the velvety finish goes on and on. I could taste this the next day and the ethereal nose is simply haunting and it's frankly difficult to really do justice to the sheer breadth of expression. A wine for the ages and one that should live 25 years, something very few '85s can aspire to. Consistent notes save for one recent bottle that didn't seem to possess quite the freshness of the other bottles that I have tried. BH
