Comte Liger-Belair's mostly Pinot Noir-based wines are made using biodynamic principles, and vineyards are plowed by horse. Short maceration times are favoured to avoid over-extraction, and the Domaine uses mostly new oak.
Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's elegantly structured wines are highly sought-after, despite the Domaine's youth. The La Romanée monopole wine is regularly among the most expensive wines produced in Burgundy.

Robert Parker | 97 RP - 2011 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee Burgundy - A wonderfully fresh, restrained, cool and superbly elegant nose features a wonderful array of spices along with violet, red currant, plum and rose petals along with the hallmark wet stone nuances. There is equally superb focus to the refined, delineated and powerful medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by exceptionally fine tannins that are perfectly well-integrated on the energetic and explosively persistent finish. This will require plenty of patience to reach its full potential. BH The 2011 La Romanee Grand Cru is a scintillating proposition. It still has a spellbinding bouquet that roots your feet to the spot: mineral-laden with those limestone scents, as if traipsing across wet, wild moorland. The palate is brilliantly balanced with fresh citric acidity that sends a bolt of electricity pulsing through this grand cru, though the finish has retained its femininity and weightlessness that marks it out as perhaps a more approachable La Romanee that other vintages. Outstanding. RP |

Burghound | 94 BH - An ultra-fresh, restrained, cool and superbly elegant nose features a wonderful array of spices along with the distilled essence of red cherry liqueur violet, plum and rose petals along with the hallmark wet stone nuances. There is equally superb focus to the refined, delineated and powerful medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by exceptionally fine tannins that are perfectly well-integrated on the energetic and explosively persistent and mildly austere finish that quickly tightens up. This doesn't have the mid-palate density of its 2010 and 2012 counterparts but I very much admire the seamless delivery. BH |
