One of the most exciting in California, this beautiful winery is owned by Englishman Sir Peter Michael. When he launched this winery, Michael had the foresight originally to hire the brilliant Helen Turley to oversee the winemaking. The current vineyard/winemaking team, Nicolas Morlet whom took over from his brother Luc, shares Ms. Turley's winemaking philosophy.

The present as well as upcoming releases are irrefutably brilliant wines. Peter Michael produces amazing single vineyard Cabernet, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc as well. Peter Michael Winery remains a family-owned estate that is now run by Peter's son Paul. Only a small number of cases reach the retail market as the majority are set aside for the mailing list and long-term restaurant clientele.

Rating RP93 - 1997 Peter Michael Belle Cote Chardonnay There are 3,000 cases of the exquisite 1997 Chardonnay Belle Cote, which is made primarily from such old California Chardonnay clones as Wente, fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged in French barrels (50% new), and bottled unfiltered. The light straw/gold color is followed by sumptuous leesy, toasty, and honeyed pineapple scents with a touch of mineral. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with exquisite texture, a sexy, rich after-taste, and superb purity - a hallmark of every Peter Michael wine. RP
