2013 TOR Kenward Family Wines Black Magic Cabernet - 99 pts! FIRST VINTAGE
Tor Kenward continues to turn out a portfolio of wines with sensational quality. The longtime public relations guy at Beringer, he has decades of experience with some of the finest winemakers and vineyard sites in Napa and Sonoma. That thorough knowledge and expertise is admirably displayed in the following wines.
Tor Kenward utilizes highly regarded vineyards generally planted with low-yielding Old Wente clones. Rumors have always suggested these clones came from Corton-Charlemagne in Burgundy many decades ago. Tor has nailed the 2013 vintage as he has produced two wines that push perfection, and several others that merit scores in the high nineties. Kudos to Tor Kenward who is pushing the envelope in a dramatic and brilliant manner!

Robert Parker

Robert Parker 99 RP - The virtually perfect, 150-case cuvée of 2013 Proprietary Red Black Magic is a selection of obviously what Tor Kenward thought were the best lots of wine in his entire cellar. The wine is heavily dominated by Beckstoffer To Kalon fruit, given the créme de cassis, licorice, cedar wood and lead pencil shavings that come across like a first-growth Pauillac. The wine has fabulous texture, a full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and almost unreal depth and length of close to a minute. This is as close to perfection as it gets, and I’m not sure it doesn’t merit a three-digit score, as it might with another 1-2 years of bottle age. Kudos to Tor for this profound effort, which should age effortlessly for 30 or more years.
