2013 Scarecrow M. Etain Cabernet - 95 pts!
The story goes as follows: In 1945 the famed John Daniel Jr. who made so many historically great wines at Inglenook convinced a neighbor of his J. J. Cohn to plant 80 acres of Cabernet vines and the fruit became a component of Inglenook's series of great Cabernet Sauvignons. Cohn who owned the property and planted the vineyard at the insistence of John Daniel had a prominent career in Hollywood as chief of production at MGM where he played a role in the making of such movies as "Ben Hur" "Mutiny on the Bounty" and his favorite movie apparently "The Wizard of Oz" to which the Scarecrow label pays tribute.

When we first looked at the winery we were impressed as it had all the elements to become a legend; great bottling and packaging great story incredible website and all from the "oldest Cabernet vines in North America". If only the juice in the bottle lived up to our expectations......well it actually exceeded our expectations! We called Brett to tell him how amazing we thought the wine was. After a few hours, we made a friendly wager. We touted this wine as the "Next Screaming Eagle" and placed hundreds of clients into this wine thru their mailing list! For once, Parker agreed with us and gave the wine 98 points!! With such phenomenal juice and limited production this wine is destined to become a Cult Legend and who knows......maybe take claim to the throne?

Robert Parker 95 RP - 2013 Scarecrow M. Etain Cabernet - 95 pts! The 2013 M. Etain Cabernet Sauvignon, which is hardly a second wine by any means, offers beautiful blackcurrant fruit with some cedar wood/sandalwood notes, an opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, and that layered texture that is so enticing. The wine has a beautiful opaque purple color, hints of graphite, blueberry and blackberry fruit, a touch of licorice and the soil undertones that some would say are part of the so-called "Rutherford dust" scenario, although that's debatable. This wine has the sweetness and opulence to be drunk young, but won't hit its prime for at least another 5-8 years and keep for 20-30.

Antonio Galloni Rating 94 AG - The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Etain is a superb second wine. The pedigree here is simply striking. Dark red cherry, plum, mocha and spice blossom in the glass, but above all else, the M. Etain is a wine of pure texture. A deep, inky wine, the 2013 offers a compelling interplay of aromas and flavors, with marvelous depth to match its captivating personality. Frankly, it's virtually impossible to put the glass down. The M. Etain was bottled a few months before the Scarecrow, so it is even more expressive than its big brother.
