Maybach Family Vineyards is a boutique California wine producer with vineyard-specific wines from some of Napa and Sonoma's most famous appellations. The Maybach family is best known for its engineering feats, which include creating the first motorcycle, developing the first high-speed diesel engine, and building the first Mercedes car. In 2004 the family branched into winegrowing, specialising in small-production cult wines made from Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.
There are four wines in Maybach's portfolio from four separate vineyards. The Eterium Chardonnay and Irmgard Pinot Noir are sourced from vineyards on the Sonoma Coast, while the two Cabernet Sauvignon wines, Amoenus and Materium, come from vineyards in Calistoga and Oakville respectively. The Materium serves as Maybach's flagship wine and comes from a vineyard 1000ft (305m) above the valley floor. Around 490 case of this wine are produced annually – the highest production of any Maybach wine. In comparison, only some 60 cases of Sonoma Coast Chardonnay are produced per year.
