One of the most exciting in California, this beautiful winery is owned by Englishman Sir Peter Michael. When he launched this winery, Michael had the foresight originally to hire the brilliant Helen Turley to oversee the winemaking. The current vineyard/winemaking team, Nicolas Morlet whom took over from his brother Luc, shares Ms. Turley's winemaking philosophy.

The present as well as upcoming releases are irrefutably brilliant wines. Peter Michael produces amazing single vineyard Cabernet, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc as well. Peter Michael Winery remains a family-owned estate that is now run by Peter's son Paul. Only a small number of cases reach the retail market as the majority are set aside for the mailing list and long-term restaurant clientele.

Rating RP94 - The biggest production of any of these cuvees is the 2003 Belle Cote (2,900 cases; 15% alcohol). Exotic lychee, pineapple, and marmalade notes (which suggest tremendous ripeness) along with a refined, sophisticated structure result in a sensational glass of full-bodied Chardonnay that is well-delineated for its size and power. This is pretty sensational stuff and has good availability. RP
