1998 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia - Wine of The Year!
Ornellaia is one of the foremost producers in the Bolgheri appellation on the coast of Tuscany. It is particularly known for making one of Italy's most famous and expensive wines, which shares the same name.

This Bordeaux-style blend is one of the original Super Tuscans. It is made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, instead of Tuscany's most famous variety, Sangiovese.

Robert Parker

Robert Parker 1998 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia - Wine of The Year! Dark color, with intense aromas of green and black olives and rich, ripe raspberries. Full-bodied, with big velvety tannins and a bold, exciting finish. This is very structured. Full throttle.--Masseto non-blind vertical. Best after 2007. 2,580 cases made. WS A cool and sleek Tuscan red with tarragon and fresh sage aromas blackberry and cherry undertones. Full-bodied with a wonderfully silky palate of fine tannins and a long fruity finish. Very sophisticated and reserved. WS The 1998 is a decidedly slender Ornellaia. More advanced than the 1999 it shows notes of tobacco herbs and ripe fruit on a medium-bodied frame with good length on the palate and slightly less polished tannins than is usually the case. The final blend in 1998 was 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
