1994 Pride Mountain Vineyards Reserve Claret - 95 pts!
Pride Mountain Vineyards was founded in 1990 by Jim and Carolyn Pride and since 2004 has been owned by their children Suzanne Pride Bryan and Steve Pride. From 2004, the winery has been run and managed by Steve Pride, CEO and Director of Winegrowing. Moreover, these wines catapult Pride Mountain into the top echelon of California's quality wineries.

Overall, their winemaking practices are traditional, even as they continue to evolve, and are designed to let the terroir signatures of the grapes be present in the finished wines.  The Bordeaux varieties of red grapes are 100% destemmed and fermented over a two-week period in stainless steel before being racked to 50% neutral and 50% new French barrels where they age for roughly 18 months with racking every 4 months.  An exception is the syrah that is only partially destemmed and is aged in 100% neutral barrels.

Even better than the 1993 the 1994 Reserve Claret (98 cases produced) possesses an opaque purple color followed by a less-evolved nose with similar underbrush cassis smoke and pain grille notes. Full-bodied super-extracted with layers of ripe fruit and well-integrated tannin and acidity this is an enormously-endowed layered wine that unfolds magnificently in the glass and on the palate. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2020. This Spring Mountain winery continues to push the envelope of quality as evidenced by the current releases - the finest wines they have yet produced. Moreover these wines catapult Pride Mountain into the top echelon of California's quality wineries.
