Proprietors Dick and Ann Grace purchased the estate in 1976, harvesting their first commercial crop in 1978, and were one of the first in the US to implement high-density vine training and use the word "family" in their winery's name. Beyond its highly allocated wines, Grace Family Vineyards runs Grace Family Vineyards Foundation with the mission "wine to act as a catalyst towards healing the planet".
Grace Family Vineyards' first wines were produced by Charlie Wagner at Caymus, who also produced wine from the Grace's fruit under his well-known label. The wines have been produced in-house since 1985 by some of Napa Valley's most esteemed winemakers including Wagner, Gary Galleron, Heidi Barrett, and Gary Brookman.

This is a magnificent Cabernet Sauvignon but lamentably only 3 barrels 425 magnums were produced as the vineyard is in the process of being replanted. The wine is powerful for a 1995 with an opaque purple color and intensely ripe black currant aromas intermingled with smoke pain grille licorice and chocolate. This deep full-bodied multi-layered wine is the essence of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Although it reveals plenty of tannin it is well-meshed in the wine's impressive richness and layered texture. Still youthful and grapy this Cabernet will develop well for another 15-20+ years. RP |
