1997 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot - "Liquid Viagra" said Parker!
Pride Mountain Vineyards was founded in 1990 by Jim and Carolyn Pride and since 2004 has been owned by their children Suzanne Pride Bryan and Steve Pride. From 2004, the winery has been run and managed by Steve Pride, CEO and Director of Winegrowing. Moreover, these wines catapult Pride Mountain into the top echelon of California's quality wineries.

Overall, their winemaking practices are traditional, even as they continue to evolve, and are designed to let the terroir signatures of the grapes be present in the finished wines.  The Bordeaux varieties of red grapes are 100% destemmed and fermented over a two-week period in stainless steel before being racked to 50% neutral and 50% new French barrels where they age for roughly 18 months with racking every 4 months.  An exception is the syrah that is only partially destemmed and is aged in 100% neutral barrels.

Rating 93 RP - 1997 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot - Liquid Viagra!! The 1997 Merlot might be called liquified Viagra. An incredibly sexy nose of smoke black fruits cappuccino and toasty wood is followed by an expansive terrifically concentrated wine with a sumptuous texture no hard edges beautifully integrated acidity and tannin and a long 35 second finish. According to the back label about 5% Cabernet Sauvignon was added in the blend of this stunningly aromatic multi-dimensional wine. It should drink well for 12-15 years. This is a spectacular wine that must be tasted to be believed. 5208 cases made.
