1999 DRC Richebourg Burgundy - 96 pts
This hasn't budged much since it was bottled and remains almost black with a notably ripe multidimensional nose of black cherries, spice and earth that complements well the broad-shouldered and impressively scaled medium weight plus flavors that are robust and overtly muscular where the finish retains a sense of robust power and stunning length. At age 11 the '99 Richebourg is clearly signaling that it's going to require 20 to 25 years to really be at its peak. At the same time, there is sufficient mid-palate sap to at least make it approachable sooner, perhaps in 7 to 10 years from now. One of the great vintages for this fabled wine. Many, and consistent, notes. BH Magnificent the 1999 Richebourg has a saturated dark ruby color. It explodes from the glass with loads of super-ripe dark fruits including blackberries cassis plums and black cherries. This dense plush and broad wine has prodigious depth to its roasted red and black fruit-flavored personality. A myriad of spices can be found in its chewy-textured full-bodied highly concentrated powerful character. Its extraordinarily long finish is dominated by fruit yet copious quantities of sweet and supple tannin can be discerned. RP
