2001 Peter Michael Le Moulin Rouge Pinot - 95 pts!
One of the most exciting in California, this beautiful winery is owned by Englishman Sir Peter Michael. When he launched this winery, Michael had the foresight originally to hire the brilliant Helen Turley to oversee the winemaking. The current vineyard/winemaking team, Nicolas Morlet whom took over from his brother Luc, shares Ms. Turley's winemaking philosophy.

The present as well as upcoming releases are irrefutably brilliant wines. Peter Michael produces amazing single vineyard Cabernet, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc as well. Peter Michael Winery remains a family-owned estate that is now run by Peter's son Paul. Only a small number of cases reach the retail market as the majority are set aside for the mailing list and long-term restaurant clientele.

Robert Parker

Rating RP95 - The extraordinary 2001 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge continues to remind me of ripe vintages of the DRC Richebourg or La Tache. It is 100% destemmed, whereas those wines include 100% stems, but its extraordinary floral, wild mountain flower, black cherry, raspberry, and forest floor notes are noteworthy. It boasts a deep ruby color to the rim, gorgeous aromatics, a voluptuous palate, and a magnificent, 60-second finish. It is a beauty! RP
