Our name was inspired by the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso [Ovid], whose METAMORPHOSES, a poetic retelling of the Greek myths, celebrates themes of transformation and change.
Publius Ovidius Naso [Ovid] was a Roman poet who lived from 43 BC – 17 AD. His most famous work, METAMORPHOSES, is a poetic retelling of the Greek myths, celebrating the themes of transformation and change. Winemaking is a transformation from grapes to the sublime; and the works of Ovid – rich and timely, yet steeped in tradition – inform and aspire our winemaking philosophy. We value lasting relationships and sustainable farming and winemaking, all with the goal of creating wines that transmit a unique sense of place and time.

| Robert Parker Rating | Ovid keeps raising the bar with this drop-dead gorgeous set of new releases. Owners Dana Johnson and Mark Nelson have spared no expense in their pursuit to make world-class wines. These new releases are a testament to their unwavering commitment to quality. This year I also tasted two of the ‘Experiment’ series wines, which bear creative names inspired by Dana Johnson’s background in Library Sciences. The talented Austin Peterson makes the wines, Andy Erickson consults and David Abreu manages the vineyards, but what really counts is what is in the bottle. The results so far from this young property have been nothing less than stellar. |

| Antonio Galloni Rating | 95 AG - Good red-ruby. Flamboyantly sexy aromas of raspberry liqueur, woodsmoke, incense, rose oil, soy sauce and truffle. Sweet, sexy and deep, with a creamy, almost decadent core of framboise and soil flavors given energy and lift by underlying minerality. Offers an uncanny combination of silkiness and verve and finishes with suave tannins and outstanding length. One of the sexiest California wines I tasted this spring. This Bordeaux blend comes from a vineyard on Pritchard Hill, above Lake Hennessy at an elevation of 1,400 feet, and is made by Andy Erickson with Michel Rolland consulting. |
