Alban Vineyards is a California estate with a global reputation for its powerful Rhône-influenced blends and varietal wines, which are all sold on allocation, with a lengthy waiting list.
The company is located in the Edna Valley in the southern corner of San Luis Obispo County. In total, Alban has 27 hectares (66 acres) under vine mostly located around the winery. This land has a range of different soil types and mesoclimates, making site selection vital. Alban produces around 6000 cases of wine per year, and has also sold grapes to many other producers of note, including Sine Qua Non.

Deep ruby/purple-hued and medium to full-bodied, it offers hints of lavender, pepper, kirsch, raspberries, and darker fruit. This is an individualistic wine that should mature quickly, and provide the most luscious early drinking. The wines of John and Lorraine Alban are about as spectacular as one can find anywhere in the world. Alban is committed to aging his big Syrahs longer in barrel, believing it will concentrate the wines and add additional complexity. |
