2021 Kinsman Eades Aphex Ecotone Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon - 97 pts! First Vintage!
Nigel Kinsman is the very talented young winemaker behind the Araujo's new Accendo project and the recently autonomous Bella Oaks estate. In 2016, he and his wife Shae started their own label, based on fruit from the old Reverie vineyard on Diamond Mountain (just across from Diamond Creek's vineyards) and Sleeping Lady vineyard.

This year, they managed to add an absolute treasure of a vineyard find to their lineup: Geeslin vineyard, next to Eisele vineyard in Calistoga. After a bumpy start necessitating a name change from Kinsman to Kinsman Eades and the challenges of the 2017 vintage, this 2018 trio of wines really shows the sky's-the-limit potential here. Wow!

Robert Parker A co-ferment of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc from Ecotone Vineyard, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Aphex is dark and plummy, combining black cherries and some earthy notes with a hint of dark chocolate. It's full-bodied, concentrated and rich yet harmonious, with a degree of elegance, no excess weight on the palate and a lingering, softy tannic finish.
Wine Spectator This pumps dark currant, boysenberry and blackberry compote flavors along nicely, injecting them with hints of savory and bay, framing it all with a licorice snap note on the well-toasted, fleshy, inviting finish.
Antonio Galloni  97 AG - The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Aphex Ecotone Vineyard is a potent, dense wine. Dried herbs, spice, tobacco and earthy notes lend tons of savory nuance. This wild, structured Cabernet is going to need a number of years to come together. It shows tons of energy and depth, even if all the elements aren't totally in harmony at this stage. Nigel Kinsman has done a tremendous job in taming tannins that can be quite fierce at this site. Time in the glass is especially beneficial here.
