2022 Domaine de la Cote "La Cote" Pinot Noir - 96 pts!
Domaine de la Côte is a collection of six vineyards planted over 40 acres on the farthest western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Originally part of the Evening Land Vineyards program, the Domaine was purchased by Raj Parr and Sashi Moorman, along with their partner, at the beginning of 2013. Moorman discovered the site and developed the vineyards with Chris King in 2007.

Under his direction, the vineyards were planted entirely to California heritage selections at extremely high vine densities between 4,000 and 7,000 vines per acre. The Domaine organically farms its vineyards and makes its wines with the philosophy of "add nothing; take nothing away."

Robert Parker 95 RP - Youthfully vibrant but deserving of more bottle time, the 2020 Pinot Noir La Côte offers detailed aromas of wild blackberries, pipe tobacco, charcuterie and abundant amaro-like spices. The palate is fresh and chalky with broody, dark fruits and a long, minerally finish.
Antonio Galloni
98 AG - The 2020 Pinot Noir La Côte is a wine of tremendous density and power. Red cherry/plum fruit, crushed rocks, herbs and rose petal fill out the layers, but La Côte mostly stands out for its huge core of fruit. Here, too, readers will have to be extremely patient. La Côte is a Pinot of real substance. In some vintages, it has been a bit on the excessively savory side, but Sashi Moorman and Rajat Parr nailed the balance in 2020.

Robert Parker Rating 95 RP - The 2022 Pinot Noir La Côte opens with a composed, harmonious nose that only hints at the concentration and weightless density found within, combining bright, high-toned fruit aromas with profound, grounded, savory flourishes. The palate is striking in its layered, nearly opulent power, which admirably manages impressive richness without losing focus, drive or allure. The finish is similarly multidimensional and expansive, wrapping up the wine with bright acidity and precise, fine-grained, powdery tannins. This wine never stopped morphing and expanding in the glass, both in aromatic fidelity and in the dimension of the finish, suggesting this has plenty of potential in the cellar.
Antonio Galloni Rating 94 AG - The 2022 Pinot Noir La Côte is the most intensely savory and mineral of the Pinots here. In that sense, it offers an extremely vivid expression of the rugged, windswept nature of this site on the far western edge of the Sta. Rita Hills. Crushed rocks, dried herbs, lavender, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco and red cherry fruit abound. There is a feeling of youthful austerity to La Côte that will appeal most to readers who enjoy taut, sinewy Pinots.
Wine Spectator Rating 96 WS - This sports dark cherry, currant and raspberry fruit flavors that are mulled in feel, but kept taut and lively by a torrent of acidity, while sage, warm earth, white pepper, savory and flint notes bounce around. Overall a bit sauvage in feel, this is a compelling wine, but needs cellaring to tame it and allow it to stretch out.
