“The very interesting 1980 Sassicaia offers many of the delicious precursory qualities that ultimately remind you of the legendary 1985 vintage. The wine opens to a pretty garnet hue and shows youthful color stability and saturation. The mouthfeel is opulent and rich with an important sense of consistency and texture, which wraps thickly over the palate and delivers prolonged endurance. There is an evident note of sweetness that recalls primary aromas of dried cherry and sun-sweetened plum. But you also get a contrasting mineral or marine salt-like layer that keeps the wine from tasting too heavy or thick. Balanced acidity contributes in refreshing the palate. This is yet another overlooked vintage that shows surprising results today.”

Tenuta San Guido es mucho más conocida por el nombre de su vino más famoso... Sassicaia. Se encuentra en la región toscana de Maremma y cuenta con su propia denominación de origen (DOC) de finca única (Bolgheri Sassicaia) aplicada a su etiqueta insignia.
Sassicaia, uno de los vinos originales "Super Toscanos", está compuesto por Cabernet Sauvignon con una pequeña cantidad de Cabernet Franc. Es conocido por su textura flexible, elegancia y perfume.
Las uvas que componen el Sassicaia se recogen justo antes de alcanzar su madurez completa, lo que contribuye a la finura y fragancia, así como a niveles de alcohol más bajos. Tras dos semanas de fermentación en depósitos de acero inoxidable, el vino se cría durante unos 24 meses en barricas de roble francés, de las cuales alrededor del 20 por ciento son nuevas.
