Al, antiguo propietario de un exitoso negocio farmacéutico en Los Ángeles, se inició en el mundo del vino al tomar una clase en la UCLA sobre apreciación de vinos franceses. Después de trabajar en algunas vendimias en Ridge Vineyards, decidió que quería tener su propia propiedad.
