This Barolo opens to a delicate garnet color that is brightened with crystalline luminosity. The bouquet offers an immediate curtain-raiser with chiseled aromas of wild berry, licorice, white truffle and tar. That explosive start is followed by a mounting crescendo of complexity and nuance. The wine is extremely silky and polished in terms of mouthfeel and this helps to underline its impressive persistence. Bravo!”

Hay algo casi eclesiástico en una visita a la bodega de Giacomo Conterno a los pies de Monforte d’Alba. Al cruzar sus puertas, uno atraviesa inmediatamente un umbral imaginario hacia un mundo espiritual y solemne. La bodega tiene el aire de una vasta catedral con techos altísimos y espacios abiertos. Impecables barricas de roble, cada una bellamente barnizada, bordean el perímetro de la bodega como una sucesión de pequeñas capillas familiares.
Roberto Conterno se desliza lenta y pausadamente por el suelo de baldosas como si fuera un sacerdote perdido en un momento contemplativo de oración. Limpia cuidadosamente los grifos de cada gota perdida con un pañuelo blanco que mantiene a su lado. La cata oficial de su vino se realiza con la precisión ceremonial y la intensidad religiosa de una Primera Comunión. Y, al igual que cuando termina la misa, hay una sutil sensación de alivio cuando finalmente vuelves a salir a la luz del sol.
